About Me

The Short

I am a wife, mom, trainer, dietitian, and writer. I love God. I love Jesus. I am empowered by the Holy Spirit. My purpose in Cup of Joy is to name my experiences in black and white, the victories as well as the struggles and everything in between, hoping that you will receive encouragement while we journey together.

The Tall

Since starting Cup of Joy my life has changed drastically. In summary, my husband and I have experienced three moves in two different states, bought a fitness business, and welcomed two daughters into this world. As a wife and new mom, I realize the immense privilege and gravity in our call to listen and respond when God speaks. While circumstances have changed, my ultimate purpose remains the same.

“For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved…the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?” Cup of Joy was created to do just that, to be a fragrant offering to God and the fragrance of life to those who are being saved. The part of this verse that resonates with me is, “And who is equal to such a task?” That is where I am, feeling inadequate, ill equipped, yet called to share what God is doing daily in my life. This is our commission as Christians, to make disciples, proclaiming the good news of what Christ has done in us and through us. This is our purpose. While in my sinful nature I fall short every time, I am living proof that God can make something pure from dust, that He can turn weakness into strength, and that He will glorify himself through me, a sinner, in ways I never thought possible.

A secondary purpose of this blog is to share nutrition and fitness information. I have a Master of Science Degree in Nutritional Sciences from Texas Tech University and am a Registered Dietitian. I am also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. I have experience working in medical centers, rehab hospitals, fitness facilities, home healthcare, teaching at the collegiate level and leading exercise classes. People frequently ask nutrition and fitness related questions primarily about the latest fads and trends in the industry. I hope to answer many of these questions with science-based research while also providing a Biblical perspective on how to take care of our bodies, our temples of the Holy Spirit.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughters, family, and friends, going to coffee shops, writing and traveling. I pray this blog will encourage you to remember you are not alone in this journey. We all struggle in different ways but at the core can relate with one another in more ways than we may realize. For we are each the aroma of Christ to God and the fragrance of life to those who are being saved.

My name is Allyson Joy, and I invite you to join me for a Cup of Joy.
